Frame Relay

Frame Relay is a WAN protocol used for efficiently transmitting data over long distances by encapsulating data frames in a network. It is designed to provide high-speed, cost-effective communication between network devices by using a virtual circuit approach. Frame Relay simplifies network management by offering a flexible and scalable solution for data transport, supporting various data rates and connection types. It uses a connection-oriented method where data is sent over predefined paths or virtual circuits, ensuring reliable delivery and reducing network overhead. Although less common today due to the rise of newer technologies, Frame Relay remains a foundational protocol in network communications.
